Melanin Men's Conversations is back! This time we are screening Black Sheep, an excellent but harrowing short film which explores the struggles of a young black boy in a society that doesn't accept him. The screening will be followed by a group discussion around the themes of vulnerability, fitting in and male affection.
"Directed by Ed Perkins, Black Sheep tells the story of Cornelius Walker, whose life changed on 27 November 2000 - the day Damilola Taylor was killed. Damilola was 10, the same age as Cornelius. He lived five minutes away. He had the same skin colour. Cornelius’s mother, scared for her son’s safety, moved their family out of London. Cornelius suddenly found himself living on a white estate run by racists. But rather than fight them, Cornelius decided to become more like the people who hated him."
PLEASE NOTE: We want to create a safe space for black men to discuss issues that have an immediate and damaging affect on us. Therefore this is an event for BLACK MALES only.
